If I do remember correctly, the title in France was "Cynthia ou le rythme de la vie" ("Cynthia or the rythm of life") because during the 80's and 90's in France, there was an unspoken rule, later officialized by the Toubon Law (from the name of then minister of culture) that the names in any foreign video media broadcasted in France had to be adapted (not only translated) as much as possible, in order to protect French culture against foreign influence. That's, as an example, how Akane Tendo of Ranma 1/2 was called Adeline Gallant (luckyly this law did not concern books, so we had the original Japanese names in the mangas).
